Internet of Things (IoT) has become one of the largest ecosystems today in India. Seeing the potential, Indian Govt also has launched India’s first IoT centre in Bengaluru, Karnataka with five startups including Wireless Controls, Uncanny Vision, LightMetrics, ThingsCloud and SAAR Microsystems. According to the India Electronics & Semiconductor Association (IESA), Bangalore, there are more than 1300 IoT startups in India. IESA launched this list in an event called IoTNext in Bangalore. This numbers could go beyond the mentioned figure as we are living in a very dynamic country where number predicting anything is not possible.
IoT Market in India
According to a report published by IDC, worldwide Internet of Things market will grow from $655.8 billion in 2014 to $1.7 trillion in 2020 with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16.9%. As per the report, devices, connectivity, and IT services will be responsible for the majority of the IoT market in 2020. India is also ready to reap most out of the market share and expected to reach $9 billion, as per a report by yourstory.com.
What is IoT?
The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of internet-enabled physical devices embedded with electronics, software, sensors and actuators which enable these things to connect and exchange data over the network. A thing in the Internet of Things can be a person with a heart monitor implant, a farm animal with a biochip transponder, an automobile that has built-in sensors to alert the driver when tire pressure is low or any other natural or man-made object that can be assigned an IP address and is able to transfer data over a network.
