The question paper is divided majorly into four sections:
- Reading section- This section includes unseen passages and poems. The students are asked to solve the questions based on the passages and the poems. Thus, while attempting the paper make sure you read the whole passage or poem thoroughly and then answer their respective questions.

Therefore, you should be prepared with all the prose and poems prescribed in your textbooks.
- Read the textbook thoroughly- Literature allows for questions to be asked at any point in the work. You can be asked to explain the meaning of any poetic stanza. Alternatively, you could be requested to provide a brief synopsis of any chapter. You won’t be able to answer these questions until you’ve read the entire book thoroughly. Therefore, before you begin preparing the chapters, read them all and underline the key statements and words. Read the story or poetry at least twice or three times to ensure that your mind retains the entire plot or poem. This will make it easier for you to answer any query.
- Practice writing answers- Many students perceive English to be a lengthy paper. This is generally because there is a lot to write about this subject. The writing and literature sections contain questions that test your vast imagination and vocabulary. As a result, it is usually recommended that you practice these questions frequently to gain a sense of how the answers should be delivered. This will also aid in your understanding of the chapters when you look for answers while practicing them. You can take the help of NCERT important questions to practice and revise the chapters.
- Focus on presentation- Presentation makes the difference. In any exam, how you present your answers is quite important. Even if you only have three hours to complete the paper, don’t rush; give each question adequate time and try to present your answer neatly. - Solve sample papers- Solving sample papers will help you to understand the exam pattern precisely. You can strengthen your grammar skills by solving a variety of questions. If you have trouble attempting the entire paper on time, solving sample papers regularly will help you to enhance your pace and accuracy in writing.
- Make notes- While you read the chapters, make sure to write down all the important points and word meanings in your notebook. Write down the summary, theme, and plot of the story or poem in brief. If the chapters have characters, mention two to three lines of character sketch about them.
- Manage your time- Usually, students take a lot of time-solving the questions of English papers. A lot of times it has happened that students end up leaving a part of the question paper unattended. This leads to a huge loss of marks for them. To prevent this, you must try to focus on managing time according to marks distribution. Just when you get the question paper, take out time to read the whole paper. Then pick out the sections that take more time and solve them first.
- Use simple language- Students usually tend to think that using extremely big and attractive words will earn them good marks. But, this is not true. Answers should be written in easy and simple language. You can use certain vocabularies to uplift your answers, but if you fill it with unusual use of words, it will make your answers nothing but a mess. Give your examiner the concept or idea he wants in answers. If your answers lack the main idea and focus more on the vocabulary, it won’t be of great help to you.
